About Us

Capital Field ArchersCapital Field Archers (CFA) is a family oriented field archery club serving members in Canberra and the ACT and surrounding region. The club is affiliated with the Australian Bowhunters Association (ABA). CFA caters for all ages, levels of expertise and choice of shooting style - from traditional longbow, to recurve and modern compound bows - and all types of archery equipment are welcome. Our focus is field archery. Our current two courses involves twenty different targets each, with a short walk between each target.  Our targets utilize pictures and 3D rubber animals in a natural bush setting that often provide picturesque views overlooking nature reserves and some of the ACT’s surrounding hills and valleys.

CFA field targets range from 7 metres to 48 metres (for adult shooters) at unmarked distances depending on the size of the target. Juniors and new starters are encouraged to shoot at shorter distances until they become more proficient. As well as requiring the archer to estimate the distance, the field also requires shooting up or down hills, between tree branches, across gullies and dams to add to the challenge. Safety is always a priority and there are a few basic rules and conditions that we require all participants to respect and comply with.  It can be as competitive as you desire if you want to improve your score or grade but most also enjoy the social aspect and the chance to enjoy the sport of field archery with like-minded companions. So come and try it! Have a walk through the Canberra bush and improve your archery skills at the same time.

Our club is now located at the old Ingledene forest site south of Tharwa in the ACT (see map for directions) off Smiths Road.  Two field courses have been established along with a practice range and some club facilities.  More development, including additional courses, is planned for the future.
